The Beginning of Wisdom

Jan.11. The Word of God declares the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, (Prov. 1:7).The Proverbs are full of godly counsel and warnings - warnings that are meant to guard us and help keep us safe from unnecessary trouble in life. "He who despises the word will be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded." (Prov. 13:13) "Poverty and shame come to those who disdain correction..." (Prov. 13:18). The complacency of fools will destroy them, but whoever listens to Me will dwell in safety and will be secure, without fear of evil." (Prov. 1:32,33) . If you search for wisdom and understanding, and cry out for discernment, the Bible says, then you will understand the fear of the Lord. Did you know the wisdom of God functions as a shield against evil? It does! (Prov. 2:7).

There are times when the wisdom we need is not necessarily clear from the word of God. Perhaps it is a situation on how to deal with a a parenting issue, a financial decision, a relationship problem or whether or not to take that new job. God has wisdom for the things that concern us and He invites us to ask. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5). "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." (Matthew 7:7,8). Friend, if you will seek your Heavenly Father for wisdom and counsel He will guide you in paths of righteousness and help keep you from getting your foot caught in a snare.

Our loving Father warns us to hear His instruction and likens wisdom to being a 'mother', in Proverbs 1:8,9.  He tells us, "If sinners entice you, 'Do not consent!' (Prov. 1:10). He warns us over and over again not to lean on our own understanding but in every way acknowledge Him, and He will direct our path in safety. (Prov. 3:5). The problem is, we are so used to listening to our own wisdom or that of other voices that many times we reject or ignore the counsel intended to keep us safe. If we will heed God's word, He will make us wiser than our enemy. When we choice our own ways, we stumble. We take wrong paths, insisting that we know what is best for ourselves. And when things fall apart, as they often do, it's not because God doesn't care, and it's not because He doesn't love us or He isn't on our side; it's because people have rejected the wisdom He has made available. When people do not choose the fear of the Lord...when they insist on having none of His counsel, and despise His attempts to get their attention and correct their path...they must bear the fruit of their own choices. Today, let us ask for the wisdom that will keep us on a path of safety.

Pray: Father, Forgive us please for not following the wisdom You have made available, but living by self rule. You tell us that wisdom is the principle thing and to get wisdom and understanding - but not the wisdom of the world, for it is earthly, sensual and demonic. (James 3:15).  Father, that kind of wisdom will not benefit us. We ask for wisdom that is from above; first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruit; without partiality and without hypocrisy,” according to James 3:17. Holy Spirit, for myself, each of my family members, (____,____,etc), my friends, co-workers, others in the body of Christ as well as those in my community and city of _______, I ask that You give to each one of us the wisdom that is described in James 3:17. I  pray for our police department, our civic leaders, military personnel and those that watch out for our safety and protection. I pray for our judges, government leaders, teachers and school officials, parents, business owners, and community leaders, that you would give them wisdom to deal with every situation as it arises. Give them advance notice of trouble and give them insight and understanding how to thwart the plans of the enemy before it occurs. I pray that we would each have ears to hear what Your Spirit is saying, and to obey You, in Jesus name.

I decree a release of the Spirit of wisdom and understanding over all those I have mentioned in my prayer today, Father.

I decree a release of deaf ears to ‘be opened now, in Jesus name!‘ Ears, listen, hear and obey the Word of the Father and His Holy Spirit.’ Let the deaf and dumb spirit be loosed off of individuals that they may hear and be free from all ungodly filters on their ears.

I decree a release of the Spirit of truth and of your Holy Spirit to counsel and release understanding and discernment.

I declare those I have prayed for will hear and obey godly wisdom and have the wisdom they need to discern any potential snares, ungodly relationships, and mixed motives of others. They will heed the voice of caution.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for letting the wisdom from Holy Spirit guard us, keep us in the path of righteousness and shield us from evil. I thank you for giving my family members wisdom to avoid any situation that would entice them to compromise with unrighteousness and evil. I thank You for ordering our footsteps away from trouble and delivering us from all the enemy's enticements. In Jesus name, amen.
