Esther's Decree

I have often wondered what Esther wrote in her famous Decree, so many years ago. Although the Bible does not include it, I did find a copy online, at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. You can find the link here: http://www.usccb.org/bible/esther/8

I invite you to read through the decree, as it is the basis for this particular article and the decree at the end of the page.

Due to the irrevocable nature of the laws of the Medes and Persians, a king’s decree could not simply be revoked. It was considered an unchangeable law that must be followed. There was a person in the Bible named Haman, who was King Ahasuerus’ right hand man, and a very deceitful, proud, power hungry person at that. (Read the book of Esther).

Haman conspired a plot against the King and Mordecai, who was Esther’s uncle. Mordecai found about it and foiled Haman's plot. In an attempt to rid himself of Mordecai, Haman construed another treacherous plot, but he hid his plot in deceit. He deceived the king into writing a decree that would annihilate not just Mordecai, but all the Jews. He thought that if he destroyed all the Jews, he would get rid of Mordecai as well and the king would never discover his secret plot for a takeover. What Haman did not understand at the time is that the king’s very own wife, Queen Esther, was also a Jew! Haman overplayed his hand, and in the end, Queen Esther, Mordecai and all the Jews were saved. It was a time of divine retribution as God turned the tables on the enemy and protected His people.

A Time of Divine Retribution

The enemy often overplays his hand. He gets too greedy and is never satisfied. He pushes and pushes until his treacherous plan is brought out in the open. Then there is a revolt, a cry for justice, and God raises up those who will cooperate with Him to bring Him into the situation. When God is pulled into the situation, a divine reversal must take place. There are times when situations may seem horrible, impossible or too far gone in the wrong direction for God to do anything about. Ah, but nothing is impossible with God! He is a God of justice, and His compassion for the oppressed compels Him to get involved. When people cry out to God, He is moved by faith in their belief in Him, and when God gets involved, the situation is forced to change!

God’s Call to This Generation

God is raising up Esthers: those who will use their faith and their voice to speak His will into the situations needing change, and declaring His word, which are the laws of His kingdom. God is calling for His royal scribes, His royal secretaries and writers to rise up as abolitionists in this hour. He is calling his bride to pray His heart into situations – no matter how impossible they may seem in the natural – and believe that HE IS GREATER. He is calling us to pray apostolic and prophetic prayers, demanding change to come into the earth that will overturn evil plans and bring justice to those marked for destruction.

Abolish: to do away with or put an end to; cancel, annul, overturn, prohibit, repeal, rescind, terminate, wipe out, extinguish, annihilate, to make void, finish or to supersede.

We must revoke, repeal and overturn destructive laws. We must quash apathetic mind sets. It’s time to arise and wipe out the plans of the enemy. We bind the enemy according to Mark 3:27 and then have the power to bring the house down on the enemy’s head. Binding prayer prohibits, paralyzes and voids the power of the enemy. It strips the enemy of his power and causes demonic spirits to become impotent! This is the meaning of abolish! We must stamp out fear, intimidation and every assignment of the enemy!

Every day we are bombarded with news that exposes the darkness of men’s hearts. From human trafficking and pedophiles abusing our children, to the secret plotting to microchip implants, forced vaccination laws that destroy our bodies, to death panels holding all the authority over who they choose to live or die, and the government conspiring with FEMA to deal with force and capital punishment towards those that refuse to follow the herd;  it is not difficult to understand that the enemy is giving his full attention and due diligence in conspiring a multitude of plans for the destruction of mankind. And why wouldn’t he? That’s his only job description: to kill, steal and destroy. (See John 10:10)

The only thing more powerful than the twisted plans of corrupt men is the power inherit in the word of God. It is God’s law, and His word is powerful and effective in defeating evil. His word, the Lord Jesus Christ, is one and the same.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.” (John 1:1-4)

If you read that carefully, you will see that the word “He” in verse two assigns personhood to the Word. He refers to part of the godhead: the Son. The Son (Jesus Christ) is synonymous with the Word. When we look into the scriptures, we find Jesus on every page. His creative power resides with His Holy Spirit. When we speak God’s word, we sound like God. We can create like God. We can enforce the laws of His kingdom as we utilize and declare His intent, supported by the use of His word. God’s word acts to enforce the laws of heaven upon the earthly realm. When we do, He releases angels on assignment to carry out the fulfillment of His Word. Like Jesus, God’s word has an assignment. Now, I don’t mean this with any disrespect; we don’t command the Lord – but, when we return God’s word to Him in prayer and declarations, then we are essentially launching the Son of God and the armies of heaven on their assignments. (Remember what I said earlier about the Son of God being synonymous with the Word of God). We send out the Word by declarative prayer, and Jesus commissions His angels to go enforce the laws of His kingdom. We pull heaven down every time we speak and declare what God’s word has said!

“So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which it is sent.” Isaiah 55:11

God always wants to know what we see. In the first chapter of Jeremiah, God shows Jeremiah a picture of a situation then asks him what he sees. He does a similar thing in Ezekiel 37. He showed his prophet a picture of death, where many had been slain. Then he asks Ezekiel a question to determine whether or not he was full of faith. “Can these bones live?” In other words, “Can I do the impossible, Ezekiel?” He wanted to know what his prophet really saw. Would he look with eyes of faith?

What do you see?

It is very important to believe God for the bigger picture, no matter how impossible it seems. God is a God of miracles! He is a God of restoration! He is a God who loves to put the enemy to an open shame and completely reverse what Satan has done to bring death and destruction!

We can choose to see with our natural eyes, but that will leave us feeling very overwhelmed and discouraged. When we choose to look with eyes of faith, however, we see our God as being greater than any evil plot, scheme, or destructive force the enemy can cook up. Satan was defeated at the cross and will always remain defeated. Our job is to BELIEVE God, put our trust in Him, and agree with His word. God needs our agreement so that He can release answers to prayer! He is always watching over His word, ready to send out answers, but we must form an agreement by faith before He can act.

The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching My word to see that it is fulfilled.”  (Jeremiah 1:12)

Esther’s Decree served as an indictment of charges leveled against Haman. She then wrote a decree that reversed the king’s original decree. Their fate was no longer sealed. The day that the enemy had planned for their destruction became a divine reversal, where the Jews were empowered, encouraged and emboldened with courage to take back their power. This caused the Jews to prevail over their enemies.

This is the hour to turn the tables on the enemy!

When situations look hopelessly too far gone to think they can change, that is the time when God will act. This is how He displays His glory! Choose to change what you see. Choose to look at whatever situations you may be facing with a different perspective. Often what looks impossible in the natural is simply a divine set up for God to display His glory! Hallelujah! Give God a shout and look for Him to intervene! Let your faith rise up to believe the truth about His word.

“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

“For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.” (Mark 9:23)

“Behold, I am the Lord; the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27)

Friend, what situation are you looking at today? What do you believe is too far gone for God to fix? What situation has you throwing your hands up in defeat, saying that you’re dealing with a hopeless situation? What lie have you come into agreement with that has led you to believe that it is impossible to turn around? I encourage you to take another look and take God at His word! There is always a reason to hope when we have Christ. He has a way into every situation, He is just waiting to the opportune moment!

If we are honest with one another, we must admit that sometimes He does wait until all hope has been exhausted. Nothing has brought about the change we were hoping to see. We feel completely powerless to change the situation we wanted to change.

God steps in.

Often the way God steps into a situation doesn’t immediately make it better. It can see to get far worse. Remember the story of Lazarus? Jesus waited until death had claimed it’s prize. There was grief. There was a sense of hopelessness – except for one. The least likely perhaps to demonstrate faith came from a person who never even seemed to be paying attention. Always distracted. Voted least likely to be paying attention to Jesus’s teaching. Always concerned with trivial matters. That’s right, Martha. Martha, in a time when funeral arrangements were past, prayers had been seemingly ignored, and her brother was 4 days dead in the tomb. Martha’s hope surged into faith. That’s when Jesus showed up. Take a look at John 11:21,22:

Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, I know that if you had been here my brother would not have died. But even now, I know that God will give you whatever you ask Him.”

I can just see Jesus’s head turn in her direction. One eyebrow raised. What did she just say? A knowing smile of pleasure crept across his face. He nodded. She got it. Martha started shaking off off the unbelief, sadness and heaviness of the moment. While everyone else was grieving, Martha put a demand on the anointing. Faith was present to work a miracle! The compassion of the Lord compelled him to get involved, but He also had a spiritual principle he was trying to get across to those who followed Him. He never cuts a process short. He lets it run its course. Perhaps that is all He is doing in your situation now. Choose to believe!

Spiritual Principles of Breakthrough

My friends, there is a combination of elements necessary to release breakthrough. One is genuine faith in the midst of an impossible situation. The other is the word of God. The prophetic anointing sees beyond the natural and grabs hold of a different reality. The apostolic anointing declares the laws of God’s kingdom and pulls them into the natural, utilizing declarations and decrees. We don’t beg, plead or ask in prayer; apostolic prayer declares God’s word and His will and commands it to come forth. The results are in God's hand and in His timing. By faith we believe in the God who raises the dead, calling them back to life, and we call forth things (that do not yet appear in the natural) and we command them to exist. (See Romans 4:17)

A New Decree Changes the Outcome

Esther wrote a new decree to turn a day appointed for destruction into a day of victory and rejoicing. If you want to overturn the enemy’s assignments, learn from her example. Learn from Jesus’ example as He always combated the enemy with scripture! What situation is calling for you to take action? What problem can only be resolved by writing a decree of your own? Decrees carry the weight of God’s authority!

The following prayer is long. But it has been written using the very form and words of Esther’s decree, and we all know hers was very effective.  It accomplished exactly what was needed in that hour! The following royal decree, tailored in the fashion of Esther’s original decree, is to turn the tables on the enemy and once again put spiritual powers of darkness to an open shame.

A Prayer and Declaration to Turn the Tables on the Enemy

Let’s pray:

From the Lord Jesus Christ and our heavenly Father, this message and declaration to His sons and daughters in the faith, to those called according to the Father’s purpose:

Whereas the enemy has sought to glorify himself through the destruction of mankind and,

Whereas the enemy has sought to elevate himself in a position of being ‘like God,’ and sought for himself a throne where he would be worshiped;

Whereas spiritual forces of darkness and destruction have had evil assignments against the citizens of our homeland and of this nation;

Whereas principalities and powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual and natural authorities, the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly and earthly realms have waged war against the innocent and against the children of God,

Whereas many unjust people, including lawmakers, politicians and elected officials have become ambitious, lustful and greedy for selfish gain, therefore putting the lives of the citizens of this great nation as risk,

Whereas through their hatred, enmity and contempt for God and others they seek to harm the citizens of our nation and of our homeland, plotting against those who elected them,

Whereas their actions have driven out faith, compassion, love, mercy and gratitude from among humankind and have demonstrated arrogant boastfulness, acting as if they can avoid accountability and escape the stern judgment of the all-seeing, Almighty God,

Whereas those who have cloaked their hatred with disguise and entrusted with the administration of affairs have induced many in authority to become accomplices in the shedding of innocent blood, the destruction of souls and many other irreparable calamities,

Whereas those in authority, power, position and influence have used their means to place the lives and well-being of many citizens in jeopardy, proving they are unfit to hold a position requiring public trust,

Whereas they have deceived with malicious slander the sincere good will of others,

Whereas this is verifiable by the witness of Your Holy Spirit and others, provides proof that their wicked deeds are undeserving of authority,

Whereas those who have benefited from the good will of the people who voted them into office and promoted them to positions of power and authority have proven they are unable to control their arrogance, striving to deprive others of civil liberties, life, health, freedom and God given human rights,

Whereas the enemy and adversary has sought to catch the citizens of our nation and of our homeland defenseless and unaware, and is intent to transfer the rule of God’s kingdom to the kingdom of darkness,

Whereas we are governed by very just laws of the kingdom of God, our homeland, and must secure a peaceful future for our families, and future generations,

Whereas we are the children of the Most High, the living God of Majesty, who has maintained the kingdom in a flourishing condition for us and future generations,

Whereas, in so much that we are Your children, heirs of the kingdom and co-heirs with Jesus Christ, and blessed by Your favor,

Whereas we are commanded to plead the cause of the poor, the fatherless, the widows and those treated unjustly,

Whereas You, O God, have promised to bring justice to the poor, to plead the cause of those taken into captivity by wicked oppressors, and save our children,

Whereas we are called to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples to bind kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, in the pursuit of justice, righteousness and equity, to execute on them the judgment written,

Whereas we are Your delegated authority to enforce the laws of the kingdom of heaven, a scepter of authority and a royal diadem in Your hand,

Whereas we are comforted by the promise that when we are in deep distress and call upon the name of the Lord we shall be saved and delivered from ungodly oppressors,

Whereas it is written that vengeance belongs to God,

We call for swift action from God who governs all, and mankind through whom He works and wills, to bring swift action and punishment for the crimes committed, which are witnessed by the Holy Spirit and the angelic hosts of heaven,

That wherever justice has been thwarted, and human rights disregarded; where life and liberties have been unjustly removed by men driven by greed and evil desires,

Let all men and women rise up in unity, faith and courage to defend themselves against those who attack them, attempt to make slaves of them, force them through fear and intimidation to serve the enemies of God and righteousness,

For God has turned the tables on the enemy, so that the day of destruction should be appointed as a day of gladness, celebration and rejoicing in God our Savior.

I return the word of God to YOU, Father, as it is found in Your Holy Scriptures:

Isaiah 14:14,15; Ephesians 6:13; Psalm 149:7-9; Zechariah 2:8; Psalm 50:15; Psalm 72:12, Jeremiah 33:3; Romans 12:19,20; Isaiah 30:18,19; Psalm 82:3,4; Isaiah 22:22; Galatians 4:6,7; Isaiah 49:25; Deut. 16:19; Psalm 72:4; Isaiah 62:3; Esther 8:2, 4,5,7-17.

Let this be recorded into the books of heaven, and the execution of Your justice and judgment sent forth this day, July 8, 2017 in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Renounce Old Covenants!

The word covenant is not a word I find to be common language, except when one is specifically referring to scriptures in the Old Testament. However, in a recent dream I heard the Lord say, “Renounce old covenants!”

I know that God was not referring to every covenant, but He was specific in His intent. He did mention specifically covenants of regret. A covenant is a contract. He wants His people to renounce the agreements we have unknowingly had with the enemy. The word covenant can obviously be applied in a positive manner, such as a marriage covenant or the way God has chosen to honor His covenant with us. In a marriage, there is a promise and an intent of two parties in mutual agreement to live with one another and share in the stipulations of that contract that both parties agree upon. Even business contracts are often similar in nature. However, in this context the word covenant has a negative connotation. It refers to an agreement or a contract between two parties that is legally binding. Remember, Satan is a legalist. Every devil, including Satan himself, examines us for the legal right to enforce the negative consequences of our actions.

Dictionary.com offers several definitions of the word.

Covenant:

1. An agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.

2. Law. an incidental clause in such an agreement.

3. In relationship to law, a covenant is a formal agreement of legal validity, especially one under seal.

It also means a promise to enter into a covenant between two people or parties, a pledge.

Let me reflect back on my dream. In the dream I saw myself asking a question, “Why have I been so angry?” Immediately it was as if I had been taken back in time, about 20-25 years earlier. The Lord was connecting the dots in my understanding about events that happened around that time, and what my emotional frame of mind had been at that time in my life.

During that time, I was incredibly broken. It was before I came to know Christ and I had been caught in the snares of a worldly lifestyle, an abusive relationship and a whole host of other problems resulting from making poor choices. At that time in my life, I rejected myself in many ways because I was emotionally and spiritually unhealthy. I was full of fear, anger and bitterness. Most of that was due to living in rebellion and separation from God, but the pain of a guilty conscience and depression were overwhelming. I couldn’t escape it no matter what I did. I repeatedly overdosed and almost died several times. I had no real will to continue to live because I was so full of self-hatred and hopelessness. I had many people that looked down on me and daily told me I was a loser. The enemy used others around me to degrade me with verbal assaults and condemn who I was as a person and a parent. The result is that I loathed myself and wanted to die. And so, I came into agreement with those voices. I agreed with the voices that told me how unworthy and unacceptable I was. I agreed with the voices that told me I was a bad parent and would never be good for my child. I agreed with the opinions of others that were disappointed in my conduct and had judged me, told me I was unacceptable and rejected me as a human being.

Fast forward to the present. God has set me free from so many things and has radically transformed the person that I am today. What I did not realize until I had that dream is that somehow, all this time later, (and after renouncing many, many things over an extended period of time), is that there was an old covenant between the enemy and myself that was still affecting me.

Healing comes in layers, and only God can choose the timing and the method of revelation that we each need so that we can experience greater levels of healing and freedom. In my dream, I had asked the question, “Why am I so angry?” This has been a question of my heart for some time in relationship to some areas of my life where I felt a disconnect and a lack of ability to nurture some close relationships that were very important to me. I’m not perfect but I hope my transparency will not hinder you, the reader, from being able to receive from me. In an area of my life that should come naturally, (parenting) I still struggle. I feel caught between the person I want to be, and yet unable to fully express the love, peace and joy that I know are mine in Christ. So, I’ve been asking the Lord for a while now to reveal the source of that block. That is what the dream was about. He came to answer the question of my heart and reveal why the block existed.

Apparently, the agreement that I had made with the enemy all those years ago was still a legal contract that the enemy was attempting to enforce. You may ask how that could be? I certainly asked that same question! Yet, this is what the Lord showed me. I took in certain lies and believed them, and they shaped who I became. There were still lies circulating in my belief system that told me I wasn’t a good parent and I wasn't good at loving. I had experienced a lack of love and nurturing in my childhood and I just didn’t have the previous experiences to draw from that would enable me to become the mother and person I wanted to be. Although those may be the facts, it wasn't the truth. The truth is, we are new creations in Christ and we don't have to remain the same. Scripture tells us that the old has passed away and all things have become new.

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, the new has come into being." 2 Corinthians 5:17

I know this scripture well but in certain areas of my life and belief system I was still operating in an old mindset. Somewhere along the line I had rejected this truth in regards to my parenting ability, so unbelief prevented me from this scripture becoming a reality in that part of my life. Not everything, mind you, just parts of it. What I found to be true is that I would repeatedly have this negative self-chatter in my head that focused on my short comings rather than giving myself credit for the things I was doing right. Not regarding everything, but towards certain things that were very important to me. As I started to examine those sort of thoughts last night, the Lord told me to reflect on the things I could honestly say I was doing well. I was surprised at the list I was able to make, considering I can be extremely hard on myself. Then I wondered how on earth I had allowed my thoughts to be taken captive all this time, unraveling the good with the negative, critical, harsh and hard judgments I made against myself. I realized I had not only judged myself, but I was holding my young children to some standards that were pretty difficult for them to meet at times. I found myself yelling a lot more than I wanted to, and felt like I kept blowing it every time I opened my mouth. I wanted off the merry-go-round but didn't know how to make it stop!

In my dream, the Lord brought several people to pray for me and they told me to break the old covenant I had with regret. I said I didn’t know I had made a covenant with regret, but the person in my dream said, “It doesn’t matter if you did it knowingly or unknowingly, you still need to renounce it because the enemy is enforcing it!” That shocked me. As many of you know, I write a huge amount of prayers that deal with renouncing things like this, but that one caught me in a blind spot. We all have blind spots, and I think that was the point the Lord wanted to impress upon me. The enemy hides from us, so it’s the Lord’s job to drive him out of hiding. That’s why we will experience certain areas of our lives where we just seem that for the longest time we can’t seem to get a victory. God shows us the problem,  often by making us miserable with our own frustrations and limitations. Then when we get around to asking the right question, He will come with the revelation that helps us understand how to get free.

When the enemy hides from you, God will send those things that will sting your conscience and release a certain amount of pain associated with it, because He wants you to hate that part of your behavior. He is showing you something that the enemy is using against you to keep your heart and mind and your true identity in captivity. This is one of the ways that God leads us out of old behavior and into our true identity in Christ. The new you is better!

“Moreover, the LORD your God will send hornets among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed.” Deut. 7:20

"I will send hornets ahead of you so that they will drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. Exodus 23:28

The things that God is driving out are the enemies of your soul that separate you from who you are in Christ.

In John 8:32, Jesus told his disciples that if they continued in His word they would be His disciples, but on their part they would have to learn how to resist evil, obey His commands and trust Him. In doing these things, they would come to understand His teaching, be led by His Spirit, and also learn where their hope and trust were truly anchored – in Him. Jesus’ response is this: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

I feel like this is not just for myself, but for many others, too, because the core principle is applicable to more than just myself. What I understand about covenants is that they are binding until you do something on purpose to break them. When the Lord told me to renounce regret, what I understood (even from a previous dream years ago regarding this topic) is that regret is a spirit, but it’s also an assignment from the enemy. It’s not just a feeling or an emotional response; it’s a demonic entity. As such, we cannot afford to think that we can just shrug off the emotional aspect of it and be done. We must do something intentional to cut off the attachment and demonic assignment. Apostle John Eckhardt, who I consider to be one of the foremost authorities on healing and deliverance, writes about a spirit that also calls itself “Past.” (Eckhardt: Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare Manual, Charisma House, 2014). Regret and Past are witchcraft spirits that have an assignment to keep people locked up in the pain of their past. I had dealt with things of that nature in other areas of my life and thought it was finished. Yet, I had not recognized that in a different area of my life that revolved around parenting issues, I still had a stronghold in my thought life that needed to be torn down.

Recently I have become a grandmother for the second time. I have had the pleasure of holding my new grand baby and loving on her, and to be honest, it’s that flashback feeling so many parents experience when they look at their grandchild and feel like they’re holding their own children all over again. But, with that joy also triggered a twinge of regret at not having been the parent my older daughter needed when she was young.  So many times I’ve wished I had a do-over with my daughter and go back and try to correct mistakes I made along the way. I wish I could undo the pain I caused her. I think that somehow knowing she still struggles with heart issues because of things I was responsible for, has held me in a place where maybe I was even still holding myself accountable for all that. What I've come to realize is that regret is also a form of self-punishment, whether we intend it to be or not. I had to choose to, once again, forgive myself. I had to tell myself that I was released from my past and I would not continue to hold onto any regret. I broke that agreement once and for all. Maybe as you read this something is speaking to you about your own need to let go.

One thing I’ve realized is that we can’t change the past. In fact, regret over the past is not always tied to our own failures and mistakes, but a feeling of what we had hoped could be. It’s tied to things that we longed for but never became a reality. Even as I'm writing this I know that's a big one for a lot of people. Hopes and dreams that got lost along the way or just plain destroyed. Regret can take many forms. It can be tied to people, situations or relationships. Sometimes people need to renounce soul ties to individuals that they feel are tied to regret, loss or disappointment. Regret is defined as feeling of remorse or sorrow for one’s actions, but it is also to think of something (or someone) with a sense of loss, disappointment or dissatisfaction. It is distress of the mind, or sorrow for what has been done or failed to be done. It is, in a sense, hope deferred that made your heart sick with unrealized longings. It involves wrongs that were committed or errors that were made, and it means to lament, mourn, sorrow and grieve. The strongman spirit over all of these is the spirit of heaviness. Well, guess what all these things do? They rob a person of joy, peace, love, patience, kindness and contentment. All those good things are replaced with criticisms, judgments, impatience, harshness, restlessness, irritability and lack of peace. Sound familiar? It was for me. Maybe for you, too. If that’s your struggle, then the good news is, now you know how to direct your prayer. But, before I offer a prayer, I want to encourage your heart.

Many people turn to others to seek help from their emotional pain, and though that is not wrong, I urge you to be careful about others that simply agree with you. If a person never really works towards freedom and healing they will stay stuck in wilderness seasons of their lives and left with the misery that tends to make a person feel bitter. You can break free with God’s help. God knows the hurt, pain and longing in each of our hearts. Although we cannot change past events, we can put our trust in God. He can make all things new, which I translate to mean, He can give us something new that fulfills the longing in our heart. He can heal the areas of our brokenness so that we no longer feel the pain any more, but enjoy life and those he has put in our life so that we truly become whole. He is the healer of sorrows. The One who wipes away our tears. We don’t have to wait until we get to heaven to experience His touch. He wants to heal. His promise is to bind up our wounds and restore us, to give us a good future.

Your current state of life is not all that He has for you. Look to Him as your hope. He is the Creator and can create all that you need to make you whole.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:11,12

Heavenly Father,

Whether I came into agreement with the enemy knowingly or unknowingly, I now take the authority you have given me and break all ungodly covenants with the spirits of darkness. I renounce and repent for any agreements I have made in the spirit realm with demonic entities known as Regret, Past, Shame, Sorrow, Grief, Criticism, Bitterness, Unforgiveness, Irritability, Strife, Anger and Heaviness. Let these spirits be bound in the name and authority of Jesus Christ and sent back to the abyss created for them. I choose to forgive myself and anyone else that I have held responsible for my pain and disappointment. I forgive myself for any pain, offense or disappointment I have caused others. I also renounce any ungodly soul ties to (Declare names of individuals) that are connected to feelings of anger, disappointment, unforgiveness, loss and grief over lost hopes and dreams. I submit to You, Lord, and resist the enemy. I command all demonic spirits to leave me now and never return. I ask Your Holy Spirit to continue to release revelation that will lead me into greater levels of freedom and inner healing. Let peace, love and joy be released in my life now. I also ask You, Father, to create the new things in my life that will continue to bring healing, wholeness, contentment, peace and joy, in Jesus name. Amen.

Uprooting Stubborn Spirits

Demonic spirits can be stubborn and resistant, there's no doubt about it. Sometimes when people struggle under oppressive spirits or unbroken curses they grow tired and weary of the battle. It feels like you're never going to win. It feels like things are never going to change. The voices of hopelessness and unbelief grow louder, and a sense of injustice and bitterness over your situation seems overwhelming. It's bad enough for those that don't have a relationship with Christ, but when the struggles in life are so discouraging they can even turn a Christian away from trusting and believing God, that's a hard day indeed.

Some of you reading this have struggled and wrestled with God for what seems like your entire life, and you're tired. You're tired of trying to make your faith work and seen little results for your effort. You're fed up with feeling angry and frustrated with God and your circumstances. You want to believe God for His promises, but you've just seen so little progress that it can feel like you and God are at a standoff. If you feel like you're caught in this never ending tug-of-war between God and the devil, well, you ARE. I understand those stubborn-as-a-mule type of spirits that just won't give you any rest. But, here's the good news. I may not have the exact same experiences as you, but there are spiritual principles that WILL release breakthrough.

Demons have a way of revealing our weaknesses and character flaws to ourselves. If you think of someone you don't much care for or you're offended with, and something rises up within you and says, "I am not going to forgive so-and-so," you've got spirits of Defiance, Stubbornness and Rebellion at work. If you tend to justify certain behaviors, social activities or attitudes that are less than becoming, you are dealing with a stubborn demon. If you feel stubborn and defiant towards God, repentance or parting with certain sins in your life, then that is a clue you have a very stubborn spirit at work in your life. It can come in through generational sin that runs in families, or it can be doors you've opened yourself, but the reality is some demons are stronger that others and thus become more difficult to remove from one's life. God calls this idolatry, because it elevates self-will over submission and humility to God. No one can worship God in spirit and in truth when they are resisting submission to Him. It's called rebellion, and God does not put a blessing on that which is aligned with Satan and the kingdom of darkness.

Addictions, lust, rebellion, bitterness, anger, witchcraft (which is control and manipulation), and self pity are all very strong, defiant and stubborn spirits that resist deliverance. Those are just a few. Poverty, especially generational poverty, is another one. When a person or a family has struggled under demonic oppression for what seems like their entire life, it affects their entire belief system. It's difficult to believe God, much less trust Him. A person can tend to waiver between faith and unbelief, and the indecision invites a spirit of double-mindedness. The problem is, according to scripture, a double minded man receives nothing from the Lord.

The Amplified Bibles says it like this: [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]. (James 1:8)

The CEB version says this: If you are that kind of person, you can’t make up your mind, and you surely can’t be trusted. So don’t expect the Lord to give you anything at all.

And, the EXB version: [L For] Such doubters are ·thinking two different things at the same time [L double-minded], and they ·cannot decide about anything they do [L are unstable in all they do]. They should not ·think [expect] they will receive anything from the Lord.

If we want to receive answers to prayer, we must resolve the double-mindedness issue, for God rewards FAITH and OBEDIENCE. See, a person can pray and pray and pray, yet if they have a spirit of double-mindedness operating in their life, and they can't seem to establish their faith and trust in God, they won't receive the answer they need because God can't bless sin, and double-mindedness is sin. Whatever we do, if it is not done in faith, is considered sin, according to Romans 14:23. In Mark 11:22-24 Jesus advised His disciples that if they were going to pray, to have faith in God and pray without doubting, then they would have what they asked for in prayer.

The second thing God cannot bless is disobedience and sin When an unbroken curse exists in a person's life, it means the enemy has found legal grounds to steal, kill, or destroy in that person's life, or in his/her family. He can rob finances, health, act as a destroyer in relationships, business, or marriage. He can bring mental torment, illness, disease, instability in a variety of ways. He can send accidents, untimely death, and plunder where ever he chooses until the individual makes a deliberate choice to partner with God in healing and deliverance. This comes by prayers of renouncement, genuine repentance - which means forsaking and turning away from the things God calls sin, and asking for the blood of Jesus to seal the doors shut so that the enemy no longer has access to a person's life. Renounce the soul ties to people that have negative impact on your life. Separate yourself from those that encourage you by being willing accomplices in sin and error. These things are biblical and scriptural.

As I mentioned earlier, there are some spirits that are more stubborn and resistant than others. Matthew 17:18-21 is a warning about stubborn spirits that don't give up easily. Jesus advised fasting along with prayer to help move the demonic spirit out of a boy when the disciples could not cast it out. When they brought the issue to Jesus, He told them that it was because of their unbelief. They were dealing with a stubborn spirit that did not want to let go of the child, and they became frustrated at their lack of understanding.

Friend, every problem has an answer. Just hold on. Every test or trial has an expected end. For someone today, God just answered your question why you have not seen greater success, why you're still going around the same old mountain. He just gave you the answer to the trial you've been facing. FAST over the stubborn issues of your life and command those spirits to come up and be removed, in Jesus name!

I struggled with a stubborn root of bitterness all my life. I could tell it was a generational spirit because it affected our whole family. I never even met my grandmother but I know she had to have had it too, simply by observing my own family members and hearing stories about the kind of person my grandmother was. She had bitterness. Poverty was generational. Addictions, lust, rebellion, mental illness were also quite strong in my family. All of these were the tell-tale signs of a demonic root system at work. Idolatry and witchcraft were strong and deeply rooted. It felt like I was never going to get truly free. When a person has struggled for a long time with the same recurring issues they get weary, discouraged and unbelief sets in. Hopelessness sets in. This can cause a person's faith to begin to fail, and they may become offended with God. They don't understand how to get free and may get angry all over again. The person may even feel like giving up on God, but unbelief must be challenged!

FASTING is a chain breaker. It helps break up the entangled root system so that it can be removed from a person's life. Especially when you're dealing with a generational spirit that has seemingly been with a person all their life, FASTING is a necessary component to help drive the enemy out! Couple it with worship, prayer, declarations of faith, and decreeing God's word. It might not get completely taken care of the first time or two, but if you remain persistent and determined, you can and WILL get free. It's hard, I know. We all want the quick fix. But everything in our journey becomes teaching curriculum in the hand of the Lord. He won't waste our experiences, rather, He will use them to teach others how they can also get free, just as I am sharing with you now. He wants you to understand that there is light at the end of the tunnel. He's just given you the answers to the tests you've been going through. He's given you the strategy to see the enemy defeated in your life so that you can be free and healed!

I'm going to throw in a little side note. It's important that you are in correct spiritual alignment, too. Ask the Lord to direct you to a good local church, and if you can't find one, then connect online with an internet ministry where you know you are being fed the good word of God. Even if you don't always want to be accountable to the words that your reading or hearing, your spirit will witness truth. You've got to do everything you can to line up with truth.

God also gives us a promise in Malachi 3:10-12. It's really the only time in scripture where God tells us it's ok to test him at his word. If you hold up your end, He will hold up his. Giving in the house of the Lord is for the furtherance of His kingdom. If you're aligned with good leadership, anointed leadership that prays for you and feeds you with God's word, you can expect a good return. Friend, don't let fear cause you to hold back financially. Giving is part of the way you break the back of the enemy and release the promises of God. You just can't cheat God and expect to get the full benefit of what His word promises.

Malachi 3:9-12New King James Version (NKJV)

You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”
Says the Lord of hosts;
12 “And all nations will call you blessed,
For you will be a delightful land,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

I did want to interject the part about tithing because God makes a promise that when you give generously, you can also stand on His promise to rebuke the devourer. You need to have all your ducks in a row so you can be assured of correct spiritual alignment. This is one of the keys to getting unstuck!

Ok, back to the main point of this article which is dealing with stubborn spirits! You can't do it without incorporating fasting. As I mentioned earlier, there are some spirits that are much stronger than others. You are dealing with strongmen spirits that have other lessor demons under their authority. Think of it like taking out the general of an army. If you get the general, you also take out all those under his command. If you don't get the general, you'll continue to war without results because he just keeps calling in more troops faster than you can get them out. Fasting humbles our flesh and allows our Spirit man to rise up and take authority over the enemy. You are not a victim unless you choose to be. You do not need to feel helpless in your situation, you just need a different perspective of how you see it. You have to ask God to help you understand from a spiritual perspective and give you the strategies to outwit and overcome your adversary. God is trying to get the body of Christ to mature and understand that you must use the authority He has given you. He will not do for you what He expects you to do for yourself. It's time to grow up! As you cooperate in your own deliverance, you become stronger. Fasting, high praise, worship, declaring God's word and making decrees against the enemy is like taking a huge hammer against the enemy. You're pounding on his hands, his feet, his head, his back. You are hammering, pounding, weakening his grip and destroying the demonic network of that stubborn, resistant root system that has been entangled around your life. If you have to fast three days out of every week and repeat the process of praise, declarations, repentance and renouncing the sins of your ancestors, do it. Keep repeating the process. As you do, your spirit man gets stronger and the enemy gets weaker. Eventually your spirit man will overcome and force the enemy to let go and vacate!

Friends, listen to me. There is such a strong root of bitterness in our nation. We can see the evidence of it in the cries of injustice, the anger and the protests. Bitterness is unfulfilled vengeance, and it's a root cause of the outrage against police, the divisiveness and racial divide. The enemy has planted demonic root systems in our nation that are using bitterness, hatred, rebellion, lust and witchcraft to produce divisiveness and war. This is what the enemy wants. These are perverse spirits that twist truth and war against unity, forgiveness, repentance and reconciliation. They war against God himself, and they war against each one of us. The bigger picture is the enemy claiming souls for himself and taking as many people as possible into captivity, turning hearts against God and one another, shifting blame so that Satan's schemes goes unnoticed. As a nation, how can we expect to defeat our natural enemies like ISIS and other real threats unless we first defeat the spiritual enemies within? The very roots of bitterness, rebellion and witchcraft that motivates terrorist groups are the very same roots that exist within our nation; it just manifests somewhat differently. One cannot fight and expect to win against an enemy (whether externally or internally) if they are in agreement with the same spirit(s). The reality is, we cannot defeat any enemy unless we are in proper alignment with God and have taken care to annihilate the enemies in our own back yard. The only way we are going to get victory over stubborn, resistant enemies is to incorporate fasting along with prayer, high praise and worship, declaring God's word and evicting devils out of our lives, our of our homes, and out of our cities. It starts one life at a time. One household at a time. Transformation can only take place to the degree that each one of us is willing to own the sin of ourselves, our ancestors and generations of those that came before us. We must reverse the curse so that God can bless us the way He has always desired to!

I just want to end this article with a praise report. As I mentioned earlier, I struggled with bitterness for a long, long time. I could not seem to get the complete victory until I incorporated fasting along with the other components I mentioned above. As I did, I began to feel stronger in my spirit. I started to also heal internally from the toxic effects that long term spiritual issues had on my digestive system. The related health issues slowly began to reverse itself. My husband got a boatload of work (suddenly) and in one day, we paid off all our bills and credit card balances. That's a promise because it's a year of Jubilee! But that's a whole other message. Friends, God wants to bless us, but often the way he wants to bless us gets held back because the enemy has found legal loopholes to hold back the blessings in the pipeline. They're there, waiting, until we successfully complete whatever process God has us in. So don't think God isn't fair or He doesn't want to bless you. That's simply not true. I will end with this portion of scripture. I pray it's a motivator to you today and an encouragement.

Ezekiel 36:29-36New King James Version (NKJV)

29 I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you. 30 And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations. 31 Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations. 32 Not for your sake do I do this,” says the Lord God, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel!”

33 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. 35 So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ 36 Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it.

Did you see that? On the day you are delivered from the things God calls unclean, blessings await you! Restoration awaits you! A turnaround in your circumstances await you!

Beyond Awakening: Entering Into Personal Revival

Have you ever wondered how to truly enter into a personal revival? There is a pattern that precedes every personal and corporate revival. First, there is a time of frustration, discouragement and depression. Apathy sets in, and often leads people into sin; even if the sin is simply unbelief and double-mindedness. Unbelief speaks words of discouragement, for it is tied into a spirit of fear. The voice of fear tells us that God is not going to take care of us or bring the answer to our prayers, and when we come into agreement with unbelief then we are actually preventing God from answering prayer. He responds to faith, not unbelief! The downward spiral pulls people deeper into apathy as the voice of the enemy becomes stronger and louder. The farther away from God we get, the louder the voice of fear becomes. Fear magnifies problems and makes God small. The enemy’s goal is to draw people away from obedience and their loyalty to God, indulge in sin, and listen as he does all he can to convince them that God is too distant to care.

WHAT DO WE SEE? Do we see the giants, or do we see Jesus? Hopelessness is a huge factor in whether or not people will hold on to their faith or surrender to unbelief, sin and apostasy. If people allow Satan to deceive them into thinking that their problem, their sin, or the situations that affect them are too big for God to do something about, then they waiver in unbelief and double-mindedness. Scripture tells us that a double-minded person receives nothing from the Lord! This is why it is so necessary to combat the spiritual warfare with the word of God. God has spiritual laws attached to His word, and the lies must succumb to the truth. But, if a person lays down their sword and shield, they have no protection. Eventually they will become casualties of war if they refuse to fight.

PICK UP YOUR SWORD!!

The way out of the battle will always be through wielding the sword of the Spirit, the word of God, because that is the only thing Satan must obey. It is the only thing that cuts through the cobwebs of deceit.

The first step to personal revival is to admit where we got off track. When a person has a sense of defeat and discouragement, temptation is sure to follow. It’s the enemy’s way of enticing people into sin so that he has a legal entrance into their lives. He will always attempt to convince a person that their sin is justifiable and without consequence; and, without being legalistic, we all need to discern the things that God is personally dealing with us about because they are all significant. Grace is not to be taken lightly. Maturity calls us higher in accountability and personal sanctification. Have you ever been so tired of listening to yourself get angry, complain, or whine about your problems that you really can’t stand yourself anymore? Have you ever made yourself sick with your own sin and bad behavior? When God wants to change a person, sometimes He does it nice, but often he makes us feel like we’ve been hitched to a runaway horse and dragged through the mud on our faces. God will let us get so weary and exhausted that we have no more desire to resist His will. When we are tired enough to surrender, that is when He throws us a lifeline of revelation and pulls us in. He lets us know exactly why we've been going through certain things and what He expects of us.

This principle is at work in us both as individuals as well as a nation. Daily we turn on the news and we are inundated with reports of human beings at their worst. Both as a church and as a nation, we have been in a spiritual slumber for a long time, but as threats of very real enemies such as ISIS and government over reach attempt to control every aspect of our lives, we have awakened to the reality of our great need for personal and corporate change. We cannot stay the same or we will lose our freedoms and perhaps much more besides. We see the cowardice of our government leaders in confronting evil and it disgusts us. We see the blatant disregard for human life when workers of iniquity mock our God, our justice system and our very lives, and it disgusts us. We see the treachery that had made us vulnerable to our enemies – and we are disgusted. We get it now, God. We’ve compromised with everyone that had an agenda. We compromised and allowed ungodliness and those hell bent on living in sin to intimidate us, all in the name of tolerance and political correctness. We’ve lowered the bar on our expectations from ourselves, others and from our leaders, and we’re suffering because of it. We didn't want to rock the boat by taking a stand, so we remained silent. We stood around with our hands in our pockets while evil agendas gained strength because all we could see was the giants screaming in our face and making their demands and we felt so small. We felt so inadequate. We felt powerless and we FORGOT how big You really are. We caved into to cowardice because we FORGOT about all the great things You've already done for us, so many times. We stopped rehearsing the testimonies of God and we lost sight of the fact that YOU ALONE ARE GOD, and NOTHING IS TOO DIFFICULT FOR YOU. We listened and agreed with all the lies, and now we’re scrambling to recover our peace. We’re scrambling to recover our freedoms and our nation from those that desire to take it from us, but we can’t tackle a job this big without You. God, have mercy on our souls. Please! Have mercy on us for allowing the enemy to convince us that the way of sin would have no consequences. We let down our guard and now we need You, Lord Jesus, to help us recover what’s been lost. We can’t compromise with evil and think we have the power that is needed to take back our land, our families and our future. We MUST change. We must upgrade to a higher level of holiness and commitment to God. There are no other options left.

The way God awakens our heart to a sin He is trying to deliver us from is by letting us get sick and tired and utterly disgusted with our own behavior. He lets us sit in it a while and it seems that nothing we do delivers us from ourselves. All the other factors that seem to contribute to our unhappiness hinge on us becoming willing to truly surrender to God and turn away from whatever it is that has had us bound. That being said, it’s often because we need to understand where we have willingly participated in something God considers sin, and where our participation has allowed demonic activity to attach itself to us. When God has you in a headlock, the ONLY thing that will deliver you and severe those attachments is genuine repentance.  He uses our discomfort with circumstances, disgust with ourselves, and dissatisfaction with our spiritual condition to awaken us to the fact that He won’t stand for us staying the same. Sin weakens us. It strips us of confidence of who we are in Christ. It strips us of anointing, power and authority. Our Father loves us too much to allow us to remain complacent and spiritually weak. Gradually, the lights come on and we figure out what He has been after all along: our hearts. Not just the portion we are comfortable with, but all of us. We must come to a place where we are truly committed to forsaking those sins (even the ones we may consider minor) and surrendering to a new level of holiness. This is God’s process to giving His church an upgrade.

Perhaps a person has never truly made a commitment to Christ. They might have said a prayer at one time or another, inviting Jesus to be their Savior, but the desire to fully commit was lacking. Jesus isn’t moved by halfhearted devotion or a bride that is in bed with a bunch of other lovers. He is looking for those that mean what they say and will demonstrate loyalty to Him. He is after a solid, steadfast commitment to stand for righteousness, justice and equity. We all go through the various stages of growth and maturity, and the truth is, the Holy Spirit within us will fight to help us get there, if we allow Him to convict us for our need for change. The struggle comes when we insist on retaining our ability to make our own decisions and live by our own will. The good news is, no matter how long we may have been riding the fence on our willingness to fully commit, if we will just tell the Lord we are willing, and ask Holy Spirit to give us the power to live for Christ, He will pull us over to His side.

When we get to the place where we truly ‘get it,’ and are ready for change, then personal revival is not far behind. Sorrow may last for a night but joy comes in the morning. Repentance releases joy to flood our soul and renew our heart. All we have to do is determine to show gratitude and ask Him to help us love Him the way He deserves to be loved, right where we’re at. Whether or not our circumstances have changed. Whether or not the answer to prayer shows up, because He is still good and worthy of our praise. The difference is, repentance and gratitude fulfill the process of change that he has been taking us through. The result is a renewed desire to worship the King and exalt the Most High God.  It's a desire to pursue purity not out of a sense of legalism, but a desire to please God. Purity precedes power. This, this love affair with our Lord, that is revival. That is spiritual renewal. This is the personal breakthrough that opens the heavens and unlocks answers to prayer.
