God's Power to Heal the Brain

Specific, targeted prayer is needed in order to heal the mind, emotions and spirit, but often one of the things that is neglected is prayer to heal areas of the cerebral cortex in the brain. The cerebral cortex has many functions, including the higher mental functions that include areas of discernment, a variety of emotional responses, impulse control, reason, thought, memory and behavioral reactions. It has many separate functional areas with many different cell designs. The cerebral hemispheres are composed of neurons and axons. On any typical day, your brain secretes brain chemicals that act as trillions of little messengers. Seratonin, noradrenalin and dopamine are "happy messengers" that help regulate things attributed to your rest, peace and emotional balance. The brain chemical levels can fluctuate and swing out of balance depending on whether a person focuses on positive or negative thoughts. A person's thought life can actually influence the levels of hormones. Every right thought will result in faith; toxic thoughts lead to unbelief, discouragement and depression.

Thoughts Produce A Corresponding Action: Physically, Spiritually, Emotionally and Behaviorally

Seratonin functions as a regulator for your body's physiology so that your body can sleep and attain rest. Without seratonin doing it's job properly, you will not be able to sleep well no matter what you do. It is responsible for keeping your body clock and your bodily functions coordinated. It also regulates your stress fighting hormone called cortisol. Any disruption in your cortisol also affects the body's ability to regulate proper sleep cycles. It literally shifts the body to be in a state of stress. One of the first signs of being under stress is the lost ability to sleep well. Noradrenalin is responsible for setting the body's energy levels. Without it, a person feels tired, exhausted and can become increasingly more and more lethargic. (Another symptom of depression). Norepinephrine influences sleep; Epinephrine is a stress hormone and a neurotransmitter, and Dopamine functions as a pleasure center. It is the area of your brain that allows you to experience enjoyment, pleasure and a sense of satisfaction in life, but it also can act to reinforce addictive behaviors and can influence psychotic behaviors. There are other numerous brain chemicals also that can attribute to dysfunction, depression, addiction and other physical and emotional problems.

When the body goes into an overstressed mode, the person often experiences things such as overwhelming heaviness and discouragement, tiredness, lack of desire for life, activity or social contact; they feel overwhelmed and depressed. They may also feel nervous, experience shortness of breath, feel like they are having a heart attack or feel like they are having an anxiety attack. Overstressed individuals are often labeled as having a form of mental illness and may be prescribed medicine, but we as Christians can also pray specifically for God to heal the brain and any chemical imbalances that might be causing these emotional responses. Medications will always require refills if the source of the problem is not healed. Let's trust God to do that, no matter how impossible it may seem. Nothing is too difficult for Him!

How It Connects to Impulse Control

A lack of being able to effectively manage stress is also a common trigger for addicts to relapse. Our body consists of the physical, emotional and spiritual which makes up our entire being. Human beings are hardwired to be spiritually connected to our higher source, which is our Creator. Father God made us in His image (see Genesis 1:26-28) and when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, God's Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us, reconnecting us with our Heavenly Father. When the body is overstressed, it is very difficult indeed for a person to be able to connect meaningfully with God. Overstress causes the body to go into a state of agitation; when the overproduction of cortisol is present, the body actually gets ready for war. It's ready to go into a higher state of emotional response such as fight or flight, hunger, trauma, expectation of fear or pain and other things. This is why emotional triggers seem to set a person off very quickly. Remember, the cerebral cortex is where emotional responses are activated. The cerebral cortex is also the place in the brain that has the "stop" function. It is the part of the brain that tells a person when to stop certain negative behavior. A normal healthy person would have common sense kick and and set off a "stop button" - for instance, telling them, don't go kill that person or don't commit an act of rage, etc. In a normal healthy person that button works to tell people to stop over consumption of certain things but in an addict, that 'stop button' is broken. Excessive use causes a tolerance to build up in the pleasure sensors, so the person needs more and more of that particular thing in order to feel pleasure. Its like trying to obtain the unattainable, which is why an addict will continue to use over and over again even at risk of consuming lethal doses of whatever they are addicted to. It's not a self will issue, it's a physiological issue. The neurotransmitters actually get rewired at the cellular level in an unhealthy way. All this occurs on a subconscious level where we are not aware of what is happening. these are triggers to causing a person to feel overwhelmed, resentful, frustrated, angry or emotional - and often a trigger for addictive relapse. All of these factors working together can cause a host of other emotional, some physical and physiological problems.

Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to crafting a prayer to target specific areas of healing the brain. There can be accidents, trauma, head injury and more issues when it comes to needing healing for the brain. I can't tackle all of them today, but we can address some of the more common problems people deal with. Regardless of the cause, there are legitimate issues that can be healed with the power of prayer. How often people try to manage what is simply the fruit of the problem (the symptoms and behaviors) without dealing with the root of the problem, and the root of depression, addictions and many other things that can be attributed to an imbalance of brain chemicals is fear. Fear always magnifies itself. It is the root of anxiety, frustration, impatience, anger, depression and every wrong thought process. Fear is what causes cortisol to be over produced. Fear will send the adrenal glands into stress mode and cause a domino effect of a whole host of other physical problems. Fear is also the culprit when it comes to toxic thinking. Continued negative thought processes leads to depression and other mental illness, and can even change brain chemicals. Defective genetics and DNA that carries a curse in the cellular makeup can be targeted with our prayers.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. Any defect came as a result of inherited sin carried a curse and was reproduced as a genetic defect in the DNA. This deals with the physical aspects, but we still need to address the spiritual part of the remedy, and that is the revelation of our Heavenly Father's love and acceptance. The Bible says in 1 John 4:18 that perfect love casts out all fear. God's love and acceptance is so powerful that it will displace the wrong thoughts, fears, and insecurities that trigger the negative thinking that makes room for physical and emotional illness. Love displaces depression, anger, anxiety, insecurities, and many, many other problems. There is no reason why God should not heal because Jesus Christ paid the price for our total and complete victory, healing and restoration!

THE FOLLOWING IS A PRAYER TO HEAL THE BRAIN, RESTORE MENTAL HEALTH AND HELP IN HEALING ADDICTIONS:

Father God,

I thank You for Your Holy Spirit that gives us wisdom to know what to ask for in prayer. I pray for myself and ask You to send the answer to prayer. (You can also pray this over others).

I renounce fear, depression, anxiety, and addictive behaviors. I renounce and repent for any ways I have come into agreement with the enemy. I thank You Jesus for your forgiveness and restoration. I believe You are the Son of God and You can heal me. You took my sin and disease upon yourself so that I could live victoriously. Please help me live freely. Let faith rise up in me and Your Holy Spirit fill me with wholeness, power and the fullness of God.

I ask that You would heal the cerebral cortex in my brain. I ask that You would fill any areas of deficiency with the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. Let the brain chemicals of seratonin, noradrenalin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine and all chemicals produced by the brain be correctly balanced. Let every deficiency be filled and every over secretion be reduced to just the right levels for each individual. Let there be no over production of cortisol. Let every amino acid neurotransmitter function with perfect wholeness and soundness as it is in Jesus Christ. Let every gene that carried defective or mutated DNA that would perpetuate weakness,  compromised health, mental instability or that which carries the result of a curse be healed at the cellular level. Infuse every cell, every gene, every strand of DNA with the DNA and healing of Jesus Christ. Let every curse be broken and sent back to the source, for You O God did not give me any DNA that would carry a curse. It came from the evil one, and as I submit to Your authority, I resist the devil and command him to take back everything that he has brought upon me. I pray that any damage to the brain itself, the neurotransmitters, and the centers for impulse control in the cerebral cortex be healed now in Jesus name. Let there be light in every darkened area of the brain, though patterns and emotional responses. I declare the amino acid and peptide neurotransmitters be rewired to function in perfect health and send the proper amounts of chemicals to regulate impulse control, stress management, peace, pleasure and pain management in perfect balance. Let the acytlcholine functions be healed and restored to perfect health. Let the chemical agents and the communication messengers between brain cells function in perfect harmony, balance and soundness in every cell. Let all things in the molecular structure that affect mood, anxiety, appetite, sleep, temperature, heart rate, self control, discernment, impulse control, aggression, fear, stress management and other physical and psychological appetites, desires and occurrences be healed and restored to the perfect wholeness that exists in Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, let Your fullness fill my lack, for it is written, "the Lord is my Shepherd and I shall have no lack," according to Ps. 23:1. Let all areas that have been damaged, those areas that are genetically unsound, weak, impaired or afflicted be healed, for it is written, "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed," in Is. 53:4, 5. Lord Jesus, You told us, Your disciples, to lay hands on the sick and they would recover, (Mark 16:18). You said in John 14:7 and again in John 14:16 that if we abide in You, we could ask whatever we desire in Your name and Your Father would do it, because it would bring glory to Your name. So I ask that I would be healed in the cellular, molecular level of my genes, in my DNA, and that anything that resides there that is not of Your placement, nor Your will be supernaturally removed, replaced with Your fullness and restored to perfect health right now, in Jesus name. Holy Spirit, please give me a revelation of my heavenly Father's love and acceptance so that perfect love will cast out all fear. Reveal my Father's heart towards me. Show me my truest identity as it is in Christ. Lead me to the salvation that is through Jesus Christ. I thank You and give You glory for the healing that is taking place now in Jesus name. Amen.

  13. This does not work at all. I have serious memory issues from brain damage and this doesn't do anything in the slightest. God is either not listening or he does not exist. If he exists and is benevolent and omnipotent, he would be able to restore this. Since that is not happening, I know enough. And don't give me this "God works in mysterious ways" stuff. I try to believe as strongly as I can, but simply nothing. Ah well, I will simply go ahead with my planned euthanasia in a month or two instead, because life is a living hell.

    1. Dear Anonymous,

You are not anonymous to your heavenly Father. Please do not harm yourself! I am sorry that you are struggling and feel that your situation is hopeless. There is always a reason to find hope with Jesus Christ. That may sound trite, but it's true. I know because I lived through a time in my life where I was so depressed that I too didn't want to live.

My situation wasn't the same as yours, but I had lost hope. At the time, I only had one child, but I felt that she would be better off without me. I felt the world was against me and no one would miss me. I could see no purpose to my life, and therefore no reason to continue to live. I was in a constant state of hopelessness, depression and misery.

As a last ditch effort, I threw up a half-hearted prayer and said, "God, if you're real, I need help. Because if you don't help me, I am going to die in this place." About the only thing I did right was to end my prayer by saying, "In Jesus name, amen." Well, you know what? He responded. Within a week or two, a series of events began to unfold that I never could have imagined, but I knew it was God answering my prayer. God WILL respond to the humble earnest prayer of a person that truly wants to be rescued!

He knows your name. Exodus 33:17. If He knew Moses by name, He knows yours, too.

He knows the number of hairs on your head. Matthew 10:29-31

He knows when you sit down and when you rise up. He knows every thought you have even before it enters your mind. Psalm 139:1-24

The Lord hears every word you speak, BUT He responds to faith. He knows when we are miserable. He knows when we're full of fear. He knows when we are bitter, angry and full of doubt. BUT, It is FAITH that pleases Him. Perhaps the reason why God has not answered you yet is because He is waiting for you to approach Him differently. James 4:6; Hebrews 11:6

A double minded man receives nothing from the Lord. James 1:8

He also doesn't show up on man's terms. We don't get to dictate to God how or when He should answer our prayers. He is not your servant. He is not a genie to do your bidding when and how you say. I understand you are hurting and disappointed at your situation, but your words tell a story of a person that has allowed pain and disappointment to turn your heart away from God in unbelief. To say, "I know enough," or to reject any other dialogue about how God works is a proud and defiant response. God will not step in and help you when you want to elevate your own attitudes above the integrity of His name. He is a holy and just God, and you have turned into an accuser against Him. You say He is either not listening or doesn't exist. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. If you really believe He doesn't exist then He won't step in to answer you.

I implore you, please do not follow through with euthanasia. If you die as an unbeliever, you will go straight to hell. What ever you are going through now will pale in comparison to what awaits you in hell. It is a place of permanent, eternal loneliness, fear, sorrow and torment that you will never escape. There is no coming back from that sort of decision. This is not about what you believe or what I believe, or our personal opinions or convictions; this is about what is real and true. Hell is not a fictitious, made up place. It is a real place that exists. Too many people have died or visited hell and God allowed them to come back and tell others to warn them about it. I know of one such man personally. I know he is a God loving, born again Christian. God took him there in a vision and allowed him to experience it so that he could warn others that it truly is a real place, and you don't want to end up there. Attached is a video link so you can hear his testimony for yourself. I pray you take it to heart!

Please cut and paste the video link into your browser to watch.

Here's the rest of my reply. Friend, I am not trying to be harsh. I'm trying to get you to wake up to the fact that I heard your cry for help. If you didn't really want to be saved, you wouldn't have bothered to write the fact that you were planning to take your own life. We all have our own crosses to bear. I am so sorry that you are living with a problem that you feel is unmanageable and hopeless. But I can tell you that is a lie straight from the pit of hell designed to take you to hell as Satan's trophy.

Maybe the facts are that you do have serious memory issues from brain damage, BUT you can still function enough to write the above comment. You have breath. You can pray. And a person that has breath in their lungs and can still pray can change the world. IF you believe. The things that are impossible with man ARE possible with God. Luke 18:27.

With faith, all things become possible. Mark 9:23. That means ALL THINGS. Including your situation.

Perhaps what you need to do now is to pray differently than you have previously. Please, take a step of faith and pray through the following prayer. This is not so much for your physical healing but to restore you to right alignment with your heavenly father so that He can release other answers to prayer.

    3. Sorry that I have to publish my response in sections, but I'm limited as to the amount of characters. Here's the prayer:

      Father God,

I bring myself to You and place myself at the throne of Grace. Please forgive me for being impatient with your processes, for losing faith and accusing You of not caring. I do not know how you might choose to work in my life. I do not want to die in unbelief. Please give me the seed of faith that I need in order to be saved. I thank you that my sins are forgiven and You are always available to help me. I ask You for Your healing touch on my mind, emotions, memories, and my physical body. Lord, I do not know the cause of all the physical symptoms I have experienced, but You do. I believe You can help me Lord Jesus. I thank You that You know everything about me and can guide me through my healing. I ask for wisdom from your Holy Spirit to help me correctly diagnose the root of these issues. Lead me to the answers that will release my healing.

Lord, I bring my heart issues to you. I ask to be healed from any and all emotional wounds that would keep my heart blocked from giving and receiving love. Any sins that might hold me in unbelief or prevent my prayers from being answered. I ask you to dissolve any root of bitterness that came as a result of hurt, offense, grief, rejection and disappointment. Heal and displace the lies in my belief system. Guide me through my emotional healing and help me to be aware of the love that you have already placed in my life. Help me to trust that love and release any walls of self preservation I have enacted to protect myself. I open the door of my heart to You.

I ask for revelation of You as my Father, and that Your great love would dispel all spirits of fear, anxiety, abandonment, hopelessness, disillusionment, self pity, cold love and rebellion. I loose myself now from all of these including unloving and critical spirits. I loose myself from spirits of fear, accusation, anger and rejection. I submit to you Jesus and resist these spirits. In the name of Jesus and by the power of Your blood I bind every evil spirit and forbid them from operating against me. Let the spirits of heaviness and unbelief be bound in Jesus name. I command every unclean, evil spirit to go from me now and never return. I command every assignment of the enemy to be cancelled and unraveled and the assignment from the Lord to be released into my life. By faith, I receive healing from Your Holy Spirit to my mind, emotions, and memories. Forgive me, Lord, for rejecting myself and what You have said about me. You are not a liar. I choose to accept myself, and I reject the lies that the enemy has told me. I thank You for the love that heals and restores every part of me. I thank You that I have great peace and my composure is undisturbed because I put my trust in You.

Father, please help me to accept Your plans for my life. I yield to the authority of your Holy Spirit so that I may understand the purpose You have for me now. I do not have to be completely perfect or healed in order to fulfill the good plans you have for me. No one is perfect.Help me to see with new eyes and give me a new heart, one that is not weighed down with grief and uncertainty about my future. Your word tells me in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Lord, I grab hold of this promise and I ask You to lead me into the plans that will prosper me, give me hope and a new future. However you choose to bring them about. In Jesus name, amen.

Friend, you have nothing to lose by praying that prayer and everything to gain. I pray you choose life.

      In the love of Christ,
      Laura

    4. Sorry, but Christians seem to disagree about whether or not one goes to hell as a result of euthanasia (depends highly on the flavor of Christianity; rather convenient if you ask me, simply a matter of how you would like to interpret the bible). There's furthermore simply no proof whatsoever when it comes to God, heaven, or hell, although I am nevertheless prepared to try and pray (which is "believing" in itself, otherwise I would not do it). But I expect something in return (see your URL; you yourself even claim that you may expect miracles). And I am not getting anything in return, sadly.

And your friend's video is - I am sorry - just anecdotal evidence. A story. Nothing more. Which is too bad. I simply require something in return instead of only praying, believing, etc. and getting literally nothing in return. One might just as well not pray/believe, since the result is the same anyway.

And I can also die as a believer, even if I go for euthanasia. These things don't exclude each other: I refuse to suffer any longer on this earth, but still try to believe in God when I depart. Simple as that.

If believing and praying and not getting anything real in return (except for a feeling/belief which cannot be quantified) works for you, then I am happy for you (I really mean it). Good to hear that you get something out of this. It does, however not work for me like that. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and that is not being delivered here, I'm afraid (and I do require a concrete change/cure; I cannot delude myself when my memory is clearly still as bad).

Too bad. I really hoped that this would at least change something.

    5. Dear anonymous,

I am very sad to hear that you believe the way you do. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own perspective. But I do believe that as long as people have breath in their lines they can still contribute something valuable while they have time on Earth. As I said earlier, you can still pray and prayer changes lives. My personal belief is it any Christian that refuses to trust God with their future is still wrestling with the core issue of unbelief. Granted, I am not living your life and I don't want to judge you. It's just my personal opinion the unbelief is stronger in your life right now then faith and I hope that I'm wrong. I'll be praying that somehow someway God will interrupt your life and give you a life-changing encounter that will change the course of your direction.

      Bless you,
      Laura

    6. Dear Anonymous,

Your response has had me concerned all night. I've been thinking about you, and I feel that I must at least give this one last shot at trying to speak truth in love. I don't think you truly grasp the seriousness of what you're contemplating.

You cannot in one paragraph declare that there is no proof whatsoever of God, heaven or hell that exists and in another paragraph that follows make the statement that you can die a believer and still go to heaven. Either you are saved or you're not. The blood of Christ either covers your sins or it doesn't, and that makes all the difference in the world as to where you end up for eternity.

First of all, there is tons of "proof" that Jesus is who He says He is. There were witnesses of his life, ministry and miracles - including seeing him after His miraculous resurrection after death on the cross - that is recorded as eye witness accounts. The Bible is not just an ordinary book. It is full of real history that in many cases has been proven through science and historical discoveries time and time again. There are also numerous personal testimonies of various individuals throughout the course of history that have experienced heaven, hell and direct encounters with God that also cannot be ignored. If eyewitness testimony is valid in a court of law as 'proof' of something, then it is valid as proof outside of a courtroom as well. God is evident even in nature, yet you are choosing to ignore all the proof set before you.

    7. Scripture tells us to examine ourselves to see whether or not we are in the faith, (2 Corinthians 13:5). The reason this is so important is because it takes faith to carry us home to be with the Lord. The scripture in 1 Peter 1:5 tells us that a true believer is kept by the power of God THROUGH FAITH for salvation, and our salvation is revealed at the last time. Should I say, when we depart from this earth. Either our faith has kept us in Christ or it has not.Vs 8 says that whom having not seen we love. At the end of our faith we receive the salvation of our souls. (vs. 9)

Salvation in Jesus Christ is all about trust. If you cannot trust Him, then you do not know Him.If you do not know Him, you are in danger of departing this earth and hearing the words at judgment, "Depart from Me. I never knew you."

    8. Anyonymous, I am writing this not only for you, but for others that may be reading these comments. I don't want anyone to deceive themselves or be deceived by what you've written. You say that prayer or a belief in God cannot be quantified. That is also not true. I have many, many testimonies of answered prayer. Answered prayer IS evidence that God did something to respond to my request. There are millions of others that also have the testimonies of answered prayer and many other encounters with God as proof of their faith. Science, historians and many others have proven numerous facts that the events in the bible are real yet you want to discount them all? That isn't wisdom.

A person can be assured of salvation by several things. The first one is genuine repentance. I suggest to you that perhaps the reason you have not encountered God is because you have refused to believe, and that is not genuine repentance. God is not obligated to answer anyone that chooses to disbelieve.

The second thing is calling on the name of Jesus, with sincerity. When we call on the name of Jesus He promises to save us! The third thing is to believe in our heart that He is the Son of God who died upon the cross in exchange for our sins. The fourth bit of evidence is the fact that we then confess this belief out of our mouth, and tell others of our faith and belief. There is also an inward witness of the Holy Spirit living within us. These are the ways a person can know for sure that they are born again.

By the evidence from your own words, I seriously doubt that you are saved and born again. Therefore, I urge you, please...do not take your life. Revelation 21:8 declares "the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars - they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Please, you do not want to end up there! God is not a man that He should lie. Numbers 23:19

Suicide, or planned euthanasia is premeditated murder. Murder is clearly a sin. It is not an unpardonable sin, but rejection of the truth - rejection of God's Holy Spirit, is. And that is what I am trying to get you to understand. Your mind is bound by unbelief and self pity. You have chosen to reject God and reject His gracious offer of salvation, placing your trust in yourself to govern your life rather than Him. This is a form of idolatry.

There were people in the Bible like Job and Elijah that were also overcome by suicidal thoughts, but as we read through their stories it becomes evident that God did indeed take them through a dark valley, but He always had a better plan in mind. If you go through with euthanasia, you will never be able to experience what ever God may have for you in the future. As I said, real faith is all about trust. It's about having a relationship with the Lord that can heal you and restore you. We worship and serve Him because He has ALREADY proven His love for us when He went to the cross on our behalf. We love Him because He first loved us, and He is worthy of our praise. Friend, if you will genuinely, honestly renounce your pride, self pity, idolatry and your rejection of God - if you will humble yourself and ask Him to help your unbelief - I believe He will answer you and save your soul. I pray you encounter the living God and have a change of heart.

God bless you with a heart that is humble.
God bless you with a heart that is open.
God bless you with the salvation of your soul.
God bless you with the healing of your mind.
God bless you with the healing of your body.

  14. Laura,

I hope and pray that anonymous is still here on earth and and be saved from the clutches of the enemy.

But I needed to hear your words what you spoke to anonymous. I am a believer, but I struggle everyday with depression and anxiety. I constantly pray over myself. It is seasonal and not constant, thank goodness, but I am sure going through one right now. This trial that my husband and I are going through maybe for awhile. I know I have to preservere, but on my own, because my husband struggles with his faith. So I rely on the Word, singing worship and thanksgiving on my own and I rely on my church friends every Sunday. (Everyone has their busy lives.) It's friends like you that I find on the internet. I am going to print this out to help every day and to pray for anonymous. Thanks, Laura.
